Air Fryer Falafel Recipe

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these air fryer falafels are a healthier take on the classic Middle Eastern favorite. Made with chickpeas, herbs, and spices, they’re perfect for wraps, salads, or dipping.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Chickpeas cooked, drained
  • 1 cup Onion roughly chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic peeled
  • ½ cup Fresh parsley chopped
  • ¼ cup Fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder ground
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder ground
  • ½ tsp Baking powder for light texture
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour or chickpea flour
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil for brushing
  • ½ tsp Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer Basket or tray style
  • 1 Food processor For blending falafel mix
  • 1 Mixing bowl Medium size
  • 1 Spoon or scoop For shaping
  • 1 Measuring cups Optional

Method
 

  1. Add chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, and cilantro to a food processor.
  2. Pulse until the mixture is coarse but well combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Mix in baking powder and flour until combined.
  5. Rest the mixture for 10 minutes.
  6. Shape the mixture into small balls or patties.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Lightly brush falafel with olive oil.
  9. Place falafel in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  10. Air fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  11. Remove when golden and crispy and serve hot.

Notes

  • Do not over-blend the mixture to keep falafel crispy.
  • Spray air fryer basket lightly to prevent sticking.
  • Serve with tahini sauce, hummus, or pita bread.
  • Leftover falafel can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
