Cheesy Meatball Subs

Juicy meatballs smothered in rich tomato sauce and melted cheese, served in toasted sub rolls. This cheesy meatball sub is a hearty and satisfying comfort meal perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb Ground beef or beef & chicken mix
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs plain or seasoned
  • 1 large Egg beaten
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning dried herbs mix
  • ½ tsp Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Black pepper freshly ground
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 4 pieces Sub rolls hoagie style
  • cups Mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil for cooking

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Spatula or tongs

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix well and shape into small meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook meatballs until browned on all sides and fully cooked.
  5. Add marinara sauce to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Place sub rolls on a baking tray and fill with meatballs and sauce.
  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from oven and serve hot.

  • You can use chicken or turkey instead of beef.
  • Toast the sub rolls lightly for extra crunch.
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version.
  • Serve with fries or salad for a complete meal.
